Why being different is a good thing
I've recently soaked up 5 amazing weeks back in London town. If you've been following me for a while, you'd know that I once called this glorious city home for a couple of years.
I adore London for its diversity, culture, hustle, architecture, alfresco dining, long summer nights and abundance of creativity.
I've missed it like crazy, and its fair to say that I've spent the better half of the last two years trying to get over London. When I moved back to Melbourne, I was constantly comparing the two cities.
But since finally returning, I've realised how silly I was to be wishing Melbourne was more like its European counterpart.
It was only the other day I spotted this quote in a Monocle magazine..
“No one wants to go and see the same thing everywhere in the world, right? You want to see what's different.”
I have to embrace each city for what it is, as well as what it's not. Yes, London has the bustle and old world charm, but Melbourne has this beach-meets-city lifestyle that just can't be beat.
Now, it's probably about this time that you're wondering how on earth this relates to brand marketing. Well my friends, it got me thinking.
If you're anything like me, I'm constantly comparing my brand to others. When what we really should be doing is embracing our quirks and promoting them proudly. No one wants the same, we want to see different.
This is where a brand strategy really comes in to play. I've been doing a lot of my own internal brand strategy work over the last few weeks, really refining Worth Mentioning's brand values. This is the kind of stuff I LOVE doing for clients.
